2017 is quickly shaping up as a big year for the art world this year.
Art Net has affectionately named this year, “Art-Maggedon 2017” due to is rare line up of some of arts biggest fairs. Some of the shows include: the Venice Biennal, Documenta 14- which happens once every 5 years, and Skulpture Projekte Munster- which happens once every 10 years all collide in 2017. Not to mention some fun and rare shows like the Antartic Biennale. It seems that the art-stars are aligning for a year of art adventures, thanks 2017.
Here is a list of some art events that may force you to pack up your bag and travel.

Destination: Coachella Valley, California
Desert X Desert Exhibtion of Art
The shows curatorial statement"The desert is God without man" -Balzac. Coachella most known for its music festivals is being welcome by artist Ed Ruscha and others for its Art Biennial. Eyes are on this festival because this small desert town has blown up into a world phenomenon and I am sure this art Biennial will not disappoint.

Destination: Honolulu, Hawaii
Hop in a plane and land in the tropical land of Honolulu where you will be greeted with not just warm weather and fruity drinks but withshow “Middle of Now | Here.” The show is meant to highlight the vibrant culture of Pacific Islands, Asia, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Among artists you may recognize some work such as Yayoi Kusama.

Destination: Anartica Peninsula
Perhaps one of the more interesting Biennale’s is the one of a kind Antarctic show. It will take place on research ships Akademik loffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilov. The cruise will last about 15 days with the different events happening along the cruise. With the dockings there will be scheduled art presentations with artists such as Michelangelo Pistoletto, Olafur Eliasson (one of my favorite artists), Cai Guo-Qiang (check out his documentary on Netflix now to hear more about this fascination artist) and Hans Op de Beeck. All these artists have previously worked in challenging environments and I am excited to see what will come out of this epic show. If you cannot make a 15 day Antarctic cruise, don’t worry these works will presented later at the 57th Venice Biennale.

Where: Athens, Greece, Kassel, Germany
Documenta 14: Learning from Athens
This quinquennial aka every 5 years this comes around and this year’s curator Adam Szymczyk is not holding back. This two part, two location exhibition takes place in Greece and Germany is entitled “Documenta 14: Learning from Athens.” It speaks about the challenges and changes in Europe that past five years.

Where: Venice, Italy
57th Venice Biennale
Like mentioned before the works from the Antartic Bienniele will be on display this year at Venice. This acclaimed art Biennale, “Viva Arte Via” will be curated by Christine Macel. This show will definitely not disappoint as it draws well known artists and her vision is to narrow on the role of an artist in society and how in turbulent times how that affects the world at large.

Where: Munster, Germany
Skulptor Projekte Munster
This exhibition happens only once every 10 years so this folks is one for the books. Not to mention this project will be hosting many international artists including many site-specific commissions. It will include some artists such as Rebecca Horn, Claes Oldenburg, Bruce Nauman, Rosemarie Trockel, Ayse Erkmen and Katharina Stover.
